Naomi Stanton Wylly collection of Stanton family papers, 1757-1937.

This collection consists of papers pertaining to the Stanton family, principally Patrick H. Stanton and Thomas L. Wylly. They are divided into personal and legal documents. The collection includes deeds, letters, broadsides, receipts, commissions, bonds, bills of sale for slaves, wills, and other documents. Most of these papers reflect the Salzburger ancestry of the Stanton and Wylly families. Included are documents regarding Patrick Stanton's involvement in the Georgia Militia, specifically the Effingham Guards, a letter of L.A. Falligant protesting the desecration of graves in Colonial Cemetery, a letter from William Harden of the Georgia Historical Society to Mrs. Wylly thanking her for her gift of her father's flag, his epaulets and sash used in the Civil War, and a copy of An Official Register of the Deaths...Among the White Population of the City of Savannah During the Extraordinary Season of Sickness and Mortality...of the Year 1820... (Savannah, 1820).

Naomi Stanton Wylly (1851-1940) was the daughter of Patrick H. Stanton (1820-1867) and Jane E. Gnann Stanton. Her husband, Thomas L. Wylly (1846-1924) was the son of Frederick Rosburg Wylly and Sarah Lewis Cooper Wylly. They were descended from settlers in Effingham County, Georgia, primarily German-Lutheran (Salzburger) immigrants.
